Gage eXpert™ on-board FPGA technology, for FIR Filtering, Signal Averaging, Peak Detection

eXpert™ Finite Impulse Response (FIR) Filtering On-board FPGA Technology

  Specifications

  • Allows processing by an FIR filter with up to 20 taps; can be extended in software to up to 39 symmetric taps

  • FIR filter coefficients can be tailored to emphasize signal pulses of a specific shape

  • FIR Filtering is performed by Gage hardware, allowing the host-PC to handle other tasks in parallel

  • Data is filtered during transfer to the PC, so that the repetitive signal capture rate of the digitizer is not reduced

  • FIR filter algorithm covers a wide range of common numerical filters such as Moving Average Filters and Gaussian Filters

  • Transparent to Gage's standard CompuScope drivers for Windows, so that no special software is required

  • Compatible with CompuScope software development kits for C/C#, LabVIEW, and MATLAB

Gage’s new eXpert on-board FIR Filtering FPGA Technology is a powerful method for removing unwanted signal features (like noise) and emphasizing signal features of interest. Traditional analog filters are usually limited to rather simple filtering methods, such as low-pass filtering, high-pass filtering and band-pass filtering. Numerical filtering of digitized waveform data, such as that now available on-board Gage's high-performance digitizers, allows much more complex filtering methods such as Moving Average Filters and Gaussian Filters to be implemented.

FIR Filtering FPGA Technology is available with Gage's CompuScope 14200, CompuScope 14105, CompuScope 12400 and the NEW Octopus™ family of multi-channel digitizers.

eXpert™ Signal Averaging On-board FPGA Technology

  Specifications

  • Waveforms may be signal-averaged at a rate of greater than 100,000 waveforms per second

  • Maximum waveform lengths are 24,000 samples on two channels or 48,000 samples on one channel

  • Signal Averaging is performed by Gage hardware, allowing the host-PC to handle other tasks in parallel

  • On-board intelligent processing reduces PCI data traffic by a factor of more than 1000

  • Effective data processing rate of 800 MB/s

  • Compatible with CompuScope software development kits for C/C#, LabVIEW, and MATLAB

Gage’s new eXpert on-board signal averaging technology allows users to detect a small repetitive signal in a noisy environment. This powerful new signal averaging capability takes advantage of Gage’s on-board FPGA technology and allows rapid signal averaging with absolutely no CPU loading. Using signal-averaging, small signals can be extracted from a background of high amplitude noise, which may even be larger than the actual signal itself.

Signal Averaging FPGA Technology is available with Gage's CompuScope 14200, CompuScope 14105, CompuScope 12400 and the NEW Octopus™ family of multi-channel digitizers.

  eXpert™ Peak (Min/Max) Detection

  Specifications

  • Captured data is stored directly to on-board Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) to provide peak information to the user

  • Data volume is greatly reduced so that PCI traffic is correspondingly decreased

  • Peak information consists of the maximum and minimum values within a waveform and their positions

  • Compact Channel Peak Information Set occupies a data volume of only 24 Bytes

  • Highly efficient PCI transfer of Peak Information Sets that are accumulated in a circular buffer within the FPGA that is periodically polled and flushed by the controlling software

  • Re-arm time within 3 microseconds after waveform acquisition(or less for larger acquisitions)

  • Compatible with CompuScope software development kits for C/C#, LabVIEW, and MATLAB

Traditionally, PC-based waveform digitizers provide raw data to user applications which then analyze the data on the host PC using techniques such as peak detection. Often waveform data throughput exceeds the capacity of the data bus or the speed of traditional peak detection analysis routines. For these requirements, Gage now offers on-board eXpert Peak Detection Firmware for our new-generation high-performance digitizer cards.

Peak Detection Technology is available with Gage's CompuScope 14200, CompuScope 14105, CompuScope 12400 and the NEW Octopus™ family of multi-channel digitizers.
