Description
The iX Series offers a range of full featured, compact, high output AC and DC power units that can be combined to provide up to 30 kVA of power in a small amount of space. Offering 3 or 5 kVA per unit and a cabinet height of only 7 inches, the iX Series represents the most compact AC/DC power available today. The iX Series is a full featured source offering transient generation, arbitrary waveform generation, standard measurements, harmonic analysis, waveform acquisition and programmable impedance.

Controller Capabilities
The iX Series uses a sophisticated digital signal processor based arbitrary waveform generator and power analyzer. This integrated, multi instrument approach, effectively eliminates the need for additional equipment to create an AC and DC power test system.
Using a large graphical LCD display, the advanced measurement and analysis capabilities can be accessed directly from the front panel without the need for remote control. For ATE applications, both IEEE-488 and RS232C interfaces are included and Windows ™ Graphical User Interface application software comes with each iX unit.

Flexible Configurations
Configuration options include multiple unit single phase as well as multiple unit three phase systems, for a power output level from 3 kVA to 30 kVA. Multi unit systems can be field reconfigured to provide two or more smaller systems or one high power system using the Multi Box option (option -MB). This provides tremendous flexibility to meet different application requirements by utilizing the same building blocks. Contact California Instruments for details on the multi box option. Applications
The extended output frequency range of 16 Hz to 500 Hz make the iX Series suitable for both commercial and avionics applications. Dual voltage ranges provide maximum output current at any programmed voltage up to 300 Volt. The built in measurement and analysis functions eliminate the need for additional test equipment.
The low distortion output of the iX Series and its programmable output impedance provide an excellent platform for IEC Harmonics and Flicker testing. As such, the iX Series is an integral part of the IEC Compliance Test System (CTS).

Remote Control
 






All iX Series AC/DC power systems include a Windows ™ Graphical User Interface (GUI) program. The GUI supports all functions and capabilities of the iX Series. The following tasks can easily be performed through this graphical user interface using either the IEEE-488 or RS232C interface:






  • Define custom waveforms by specifying their harmonic content
  • Define custom waveforms by free-hand drawing with the mouse
  • Capture output voltage and current waveforms
  • Compile lists of transient programs on disk for quick recall and execution
  • Run IEC 61000-4-11, IEC 61000-4-13 (requires option -413), IEC 61000-4-14, IEC61000-4-17, IEC 61000-4-28 and IEC 61000-4-29 tests and print test reports.
  • Run RTCA/DO-160D (requires option -160) or MIL-STD 704D and E tests (requires option -704)
  • Analyze harmonic content of both voltage and current
  • Compare stationary harmonic voltage or current components against user defined or pre-defined limits such as IEC 61000-3-2 Harmonics.
  • Monitor remote control commands over the bus using the built in command viewer window to quickly learn how to program the iX series yourself.
  • Measure and record key output parameters such as volt rms, current, peak current, real power, and power factor.

Of course, drivers for popular programming environments such as LabView ™ are available as well for custom software development. If needed, the front panel can be locked out to prevent operator intervention during test runs.

Note: The -411 option allows IEC 61000-4-11 testing from the front panel as well as over the bus and may be used in lieu of the 411 test sequence implemented in the GUI program. The GUI will automatically use the -411 firmware option if its presence is detected in the iX Series. If the -411 option is not installed, the GUI will use a software implementation instead. In this case, a PC is required to perform IEC 61000-4-11 testing.
